*Criteria for judging will be 80% coming from the panel of judges, and 20% from the audience at the final audition.

Cyrus Chen

Head Of TuneCore, SEA

Cyrus joined TuneCore as Head of South East Asia having amassed over 12 years of regional marketing and commercial strategy experience in various industries with e-commerce companies where he oversaw market entry launches in various Asian Markets. He was based in several South East Asian countries, namely Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia and has a strong understanding of the region.

As Head of TuneCore for the region, Cyrus envisions and desires to drive the emerging markets to maturity across SEA’s music industry in the next 5 years by means of increased education, awareness and accessibility for artists to use TuneCore for digital music distribution.

Darren Teh

An Honest Mistake/ Fred Perry

Darren Teh is the lead singer of An Honest Mistake and the rhythm guitarist. The band has been active since 2008 and have performed various festivals locally and regionally. Darren is also a host of 2 radio shows, Lokalah on Rakita 107.9fm and Pop Up Stage on AFORADIO. He also runs a podcast called, ‘The Rockstar’s Guide To Surviving The Malaysian Music Industry’, to educate and equip independent artists in Malaysia. Darren also runs a small label, An Honest Mistake Records where he does marketing and promotions.

Muhammad Abdullah (Ham)

Artist, Guitarist of Seven Collar T-Shirt

For nearly two decades, Seven Collar T-Shirt has been one of the driving forces of the local indie scene. And through all the changes of time, tide and musical styles, Ham (Muhammad Abdullah) and his guitar have played a crucial role in the band’s sound.

Apart from being the SCTS lead axeman, Ham is also produced Killeur Calculateur’s Book of Flags album and Arus Split Release EP. He is also the co-host of “Review Uncle”, a music review segment by TAPAU TV, FROM 2013-2020.

Arin Sharnaz

Founder, Tala Records Asia

Arin Sharnaz, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has been around in the local music industry for 15 years. She is the founder of Tala Records Asia, an event company & record store in Malaysia that also represents as a platform for local artists. Arin manages a number of local Malaysian bands, under her self-founded management company called Juggernotes Music Management.

Hwang Boon Tee

Co-founder, Live Fact

Hwang is known as the founding member and guitarist of local instrumental band Citizens of Ice Cream. Apart from pursuing his musical career, his is also the backbone behind Live Fact, a live venue and DIY space based in Kota Damansara PJ, he is also part of the organizing and production team for City ROARS! Festival, and concerts involved foreign artists like MONO, Explosion in The Sky, Mogwai, Envy and many more that was held in Kuala Lumpur.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Eligibility: Open to Malaysian citizens aged 18 years and above only, except employees and immediate family members of The Organizer, Official Sponsors and Event Partners.
  • Submission period: 2 March, 2022 at 12:00pm (MYT) till 15 March 2023 at 12:00am (MYT)
  • Judging period: 15 March at 12:00am (MYT) till 16 Match at 11:59pm (MYT)
  • Finalists announcement: 17 March 2023, at 5:00pm (MYT) via City ROARS! Festival official website, Facebook page, Instagram or any other medium deemed appropriate by the Organizer..
  • Live audition: 19 March 2022, from 8pm till 10pm, at Nero Event Space, PJPAC.
  • A total of eight (8) acts will be shortlisted to contest for the three (3) final slots, to perform at City ROARS! Festival 2023, on 29 April.
  • The top winner of the open call will also get to perform at ASEAN Music Showcase Festival 2023 in Singapore, actual event date to be determined.
  • No cash prizes will be offered for the open call contest.
  • With this submission, you agree to receive promotional emails from our partners.
  • Shortlisted acts will be notified by email or any other means of communication deemed fit by the organizer based on the details furnished during the submission.
  • Shortlisted acts are required to take part in the live audition. In the event of no show, the shortlisted act will be automatically disqualified from the contest, except for participants from Sabah and Sarawak.
  • The Organizer reserves the absolute right to amend the open call period if deemed necessary without any notice. All entries received after the submission period shall not be entertained.

ADDITIONAL

  • The Organizer reserves the right to change, cancel, terminate and/or suspend this open call, without the need to provide any prior notice.
  • Participation in this open call constitutes an irrevocable permission for the Organizer to use the winners’ names and photographs for purposes of publicity and advertisement without any compensation or need for prior notification to the winners.
  • The Organizer shall not be responsible nor shall accept any liabilities of whatsoever nature and however arising or suffered by the participants and/or third parties resulting directly or indirectly from the open call. Winners shall assume full liability and responsibility in case of any liability, mishap, injury, damage, claim or accidents (including death) resulting from their participation in this open call.
  • By participating in this open call, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, and all decisions by the Organizer are final and binding. The Organizer reserves the right to change, amend, add or delete any of these Terms and Conditions without prior notice at any time and participants shall be bound by such changes.
